A NOTE FROM RALPH SMART Feb 14th 2012 Just a quick note to brief you on the meeting at Statesboro FBC last night. The State Men's Conference will be held at Statesboro FBC (SFBC) on Aug 11, 2012. 0800-1400. The principal speaker will be LTC Steve Russell USA (Ret). LTC Russell commanded the 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 4th Infantry Div and was a central player in the hunt for and capture of Saddam Hussien. He has been decorated for valor when he fought his way out of an ambush with his driver, killing four insurgents at close range. He is the founder of Vets For Victory, an organization that has led in promoting victory on the battlefield and victory at home. So having said that, this should be an interesting and informative meeting. The SFBC will seat at least 1200 and we have set a goal of filling that space. The emphasis of this group, and the meeting, will be reaching out to men- both statewide and to the military in particular. The largest hurdle will be building a consensus for support and participation from the various associations and individual churches. I was asked to chair a small committee specifically targeted towards the military Chaplaincy, military menbers on military installations ( Primarily Ft Stewart and HAAF), and military men in local churches. This will entail gaining support and encouragement from our member churches in the Liberty, Long, Wayne county areas in addition to the Chatham, Bryan and possibly even the Effingham county areas. I think this will be an excellent opportunuity for the Watchmen and I hope that we can attend in force -wearing our red shirts - of course. |
